Today's triptych of readings helps us focus very clearly on the need to see our future in faith and to embrace that future before it embraces us unprepared.
The first reading points out that the night of the Passover "was known beforehand to our fathers, that, with sure knowledge of the oaths in which they put their faith, they might have courage."
